Removing the Top Rack End Caps on an Old GE Dishwasher

End caps hold dishwasher racks in place on the rails. Before you can take a rack out of the dishwasher, you will need to remove the end caps. Older models of General Electric dishwashers feature a particular mechanism that will release the end caps for easy removal.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the electrical power to the dishwasher from the kitchen circuit breaker.

    • 2

      Open the dishwasher door.

    • 3

Press the small indented button located on the left rail behind the end cap. This will release the end cap so that you can pull it off. Set the cap aside.

    • 4

Press the button on the end of the right rail to disengage the second cap. Pull the end cap off the rail and set it aside.

    • 5

Replace the end caps by pushing them back into place on the rails.
