Removing the Upper Rack in a GE Dishwasher

GE dishwasher racks have a plastic coating over the wire dish racks that can crack and rust over time. If you need to replace your dishwasher’s upper dish rack then you can purchase a replacement dish rack and replace it yourself. Removing the dish rack only takes a few minutes and depending on your GE dishwasher model, you may not need any tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door to the GE dishwasher and allow it to lay down flat.

    • 2

Pull the upper dish rack out as far as it will go.

    • 3

Reach back and locate the clip-on tabs on the back ends of the track rails. GE dishwashers have either plastic or stainless steel clips.

    • 4

Press the side of the tab in and slide the tab off the back of the track rail if you have a stainless steel clip. For a plastic clip, slide a flathead screwdriver or a quarter into the gap on the side of the clip and push it toward the back of the clip while pulling the clip out from the side. Repeat for the other track rail clip.

    • 5

Pull the dish rack, along with both of the track rails, out of the dishwasher.
