How to Remove the Top Rack From a Kenmore Dishwasher

The top rack in your Kenmore dishwasher not only slides out for placing cups, plates and other items on the back portion of the rack, but is also removable for placing tall items on the bottom rack. Removing the top rack is also ideal for removing hard-water stains, detergent buildup and caked-on debris from the back of the appliance. Your Kenmore dishwasher’s top rack contains two clips that hold the rack in place on its sliding track.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide out your Kenmore dishwasher’s top rack and unload any dishes on the rack. Wear latex or work gloves to get a better grip of the rack if it is wet or slippery.

    • 2

Locate the clip on each side of the rack. The clip is metal and on the back portion of the rack’s track.

    • 3

Press the clip’s ridges inward and push back on the clip until its outer side releases. Slide the clip toward you to the inside of the track’s edge until the clip comes off of the track. Repeat step for the clip on the other side of the rack’s track.

Pull the top rack toward you until its rollers are free of the track. Sit the rack on a clean surface next to or close to your Kenmore dishwasher.
