How to Clean the Top Rack in a KitchenAid Dishwasher

Food debris and detergent residue accumulate on the top rack of the KitchenAid dishwasher if plates are not thoroughly scraped before being washed, or if an old, poor-quaity detergent is used in the appliance. Clean the top rack of the appliance with fresh dishwasher detergent to eliminate residue, or with white vinegar for a natural cleaning solution. Once cleaned, use only high-quality dishwashing detergent to prevent stains and residue from reappearing in the appliance

Instructions

    • 1

Open the appliance's door slightly on the KitchenAid dishwasher to turn off the appliance, and pull down the dishwasher's door.

    • 2

Wet a sponge under hot, running water and sprinkle powdered dishwashing detergent onto the sponge.

    • 3

Pull out the top rack of the dishwasher and scrub the rack with the damp sponge. Re-wet the sponge and continue brushing the rack until all of the residue is cleaned off.

    • 4

Fill the main wash compartment in the dishwasher to the "Hard Water" line, and push the top rack back into the dishwasher.

    • 5

Pull up the dishwasher's door to close it. Push "Normal Wash" and "Start/Resume" to run a cleaning cycle and eliminate remaining loose debris.

    • 6

Place a cup of vinegar on the top rack and run the dishwasher through a rinse cycle if further cleaning is needed.
