How to Get an Antifreeze Stain Off the Driveway

Antifreeze on your driveway is not only unsightly, it can be a danger to pets. The sweet taste of poisonous antifreeze is an appealing snack for your four-legged friends. Antifreeze dissolves in water unlike motor oil, so cleanup is easier. Remove an antifreeze stain from your driveway the right way to prevent damage to the driveway surface in the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a generous layer of cat litter over the antifreeze stain. Push it around with a broom so it effectively absorbs the antifreeze. Let the cat litter stay on the spot overnight. Sweep it up the next day with a broom.

    • 2

Wet the affected area with water. Sprinkle dry laundry detergent onto the stain so it is completely covered.

    • 3

Lay three layers of newspaper over the laundry detergent. Press down with your hands to make it flat.

    • 4

Wet the area again with water. Wait three hours before removing the newspaper.

    • 5

Scrub the spot with water and a nylon scrub brush to remove the stain. Rinse the driveway well with clean water.
