How to Get Rid of a Water Stain Ring in the Toilet

Toilet bowls often become dingy and discolored due to a water stain ring. This area where the water level lies sometimes attracts the growth of mildew, which can produce a ring stain. Hard water in the toilet also may react with the chemicals present in the bowl to produce residue. Get rid of an unsightly toilet bowl ring by using safe, inexpensive cleaners that you may already have right at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill an empty spray bottle with plain white vinegar.

    • 2

Lift the toilet's lid and spray the inside of the toilet. Douse the stained area liberally with the vinegar. Wait for 30 minutes as the acid contained in the vinegar breaks down the stain.

    • 3

Wet a toilet brush with vinegar and sprinkle it with baking soda.

    • 4

Scrub away the stain with the toilet brush. The baking soda will act as a mild abrasive and will help to whiten the toilet as well.
