How to Get Grease Off a Brick Driveway

Grease and oil stains and spills are common on a driveway. If your driveway is made of brick, the pores in the brick absorb some of the grease, and the nooks and crannies on the brick grout also hold onto the grease. As a result, you can’t simply scrape the grease off. Instead, you need to use one product that absorbs the grease and another that removes the residue.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Sprinkle kitty litter over the grease spill to soak up as much of it as possible. Sprinkle until the kitty litter no longer absorbs the grease. Let it sit for 10 minutes to give it time to absorb all the grease stain.

    • 2

Scrub the kitty litter into the brick with a stiff, nylon-bristle brush. Don’t use a wire-bristle brush, which will scratch the brick driveway.

    • 3

Sweep up the kitty litter, and throw it away.

    • 4

Add 2 tablespoons laundry detergent to a bucket of hot water.

    • 5

Dip the scrubbing brush into the soapy water, and scrub it over the bricks until the grease is gone. Use as much soapy water as possible.

    • 6

Rinse the brick with clear water from a hose, and let it air dry.
