Removing Stains From Rice Paper on a Room Divider

Rice paper, a delicate paper made from the pith of the rice paper plant, dates back to the beginning of the Tang dynasty. You'll find rice paper today as a crucial material in exotic home furnishings such as lanterns, shades and room dividers. It's an ideal material for home decor, as its both rotproof and mothproof. However, like all paper products, rice paper does have a certain absorbency, which makes stain removal a headache. If you approach the task strategically, you can restore the fresh, pristine look of your rice paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a brush attachment onto your vacuum cleaner. Run the vacuum cleaner over the stains on the rice paper, gently loosening them.

    • 2

Grab a wad of artist's eraser approximately half the size of the stain you're trying to remove. Press and rub the artist's eraser back and forth very gently against the stain.

    • 3

Turn and fold the artist's eraser as you work so that the stain is constantly in contact with a fresh part of the artist's eraser. Don't exert a lot of pressure on the rice paper as you don't want it to tear. Be gentle as you work, pressing and rubbing. Continue until the stains vanish.

Remove the brush attachment from your vacuum and run the vacuum's hose over the rice paper, sucking up the dust and loose particles from the artist's eraser.
