Nonsmokers find cigarette smoke odors unpleasant, but smokers become accustomed to the smell. When smokers smoke indoors, cigarette odors permeate walls while the smoke leaves a yellow stain on paint. If you recently moved into a smoker’s previous residence, try to remove the odors and stains with household products and commercial cleaners. If simple cleaning won’t remove the smoke, you will need to have the walls repainted.
