Microscopic particles become lodged in the fabric and will stay there, causing your room to stink. Instructions

    • 1

Fill several bowls with vinegar. Set the bowls close to the furniture that smells like smoke. The vinegar will help purge and absorb the smoke from the furniture.

    • 2

Empty any ashtrays that are currently near the furniture. Fill the ashtrays with cat litter. The cat litter will help absorb smoke odor when cigarettes are extenguished rather than allowing the furniture to absorb the smoke.

    • 3

Set an air purifier in the room. The air purifier will circulate and clean the air in the room and help prevent smoke odor from settling on the furniture.

    • 4

Clean the furniture with an upholstery cleaner. Then fill a bowl with 1 part vinegar, and 1 part water. Dip a sponge in the water and gently wipe down the furniture with the vinegar mixture. Use the vinegar mixture immediately after using the upholstery cleaner. Allow the furniture to air dry before using.

    • 5

Unzip the pillows from the couch or other furniture. Place a scented fabric softener sheet into the pillow cover and zip up the pillow. The fabric softener sheet will help absorb smoke odor and serve as an air freshener.

Have your furniture professionally cleaned. If you've tried everything else and your furniture still smells of tobacco smoke, hire a professional cleaner to clean the furniture with special upholstery equipment.
