Step 1: Safety Precautions
Before starting the cleaning process, ensure your safety:
- Turn off the oven and let it cool down completely to avoid burns.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands.
- Open windows or turn on the exhaust fan to provide proper ventilation.
Step 2: Gather Supplies
Here are the supplies you'll need for the cleaning process:
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- Water
- Spray bottle
- Scrubbing brush
- Soft cloths
- Baking pan
- Aluminum foil (Optional)
Step 3: Remove Oven Racks and Pans
- Pull out all the removable oven racks and pans. Soak them in a mixture of hot soapy water to loosen grease and food residue.
Step 4: Baking Soda Paste Preparation
- Mix baking soda with water in equal proportions to create a paste.
- Apply the paste generously all over the oven interior, including the sides, bottom, and door.
Step 5: Spray Vinegar
- Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle and mist it directly over the baking soda paste.
- The mixture will start to fizz and loosen caked-on grease and dirt.
Step 6: Let it Sit
- Allow the baking soda and vinegar mixture to sit inside the oven for at least 30 minutes. This gives the solution time to work its magic.
Step 7: Scrubbing
- After 30 minutes, the grime should have softened. Use a scrubbing brush to agitate the surfaces, gently removing loosened grime.
- Scrub gently to avoid scratching the oven interior.
Step 8: Rinse and Wipe
- Rinse the oven interior thoroughly using a soft cloth dampened with warm water.
- Use another soft and dry cloth to wipe the surfaces, removing excess moisture.
Step 9: Clean the Oven Door
- Don't forget about the oven door! Spray the solution onto the glass and apply some baking soda paste.
- Scrub the surfaces and rinse with warm water.
- Use a glass cleaner to ensure the door is sparkling.
Step 10: Wipe Again
- Wipe down the entire interior of the oven, including the door, with a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture and residues.
Bonus Tip (For Heavily Soiled Ovens):
- If your oven is particularly dirty, consider using foil to intensify the cleaning process:
- Place a baking pan filled with two cups of water on the bottom of the oven.
- Add half a cup of baking soda to the pan.
- Place a sheet of foil on the oven racks, allowing the water vapor from the pan to circulate and loosen tough stains.
- Once the foil has been in place for about 30 minutes, continue the cleaning process as described above.
Remember, regular maintenance is key to keeping your oven clean. Repeat this cleaning process every few months to prevent the build-up of grease and grime. With some elbow grease and the right cleaning approach, your non self-cleaning oven will be sparkling in no time!
