Cut away the damaged pieces of carpet fiber with a pair of small scissors. If the individual fiber is completely damaged, remove it at the base. Otherwise, preserve any viable pieces of partially-damaged carpet.
Locate a piece of carpeting in an unused area, such as under a bed or inside the closet, and cut away the fibers at the base. Remove enough carpet fibers to repair the patch.
Cover the bottom of the carpet fibers with a strong, clear adhesive. Carefully fill in the damaged area with the borrowed fibers, one at a time, gluing them to the carpet’s backing.
Transplant the new fibers this way until the area is completely repaired. Allow the glue to dry for at least eight hours, or overnight, before vacuuming.
