How to Decorate With Large Vases

Large vases can fill empty corners, awkward open spaces or simply accentuate other pieces. Center your room's decor around your large vase or choose a vase that complements the rest of the decor. Either way, the vase can make a statement in the room. Let the vase stand alone or use it to hold other items, whether it's another decorative element or something practical, such as umbrellas.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the vase, or group of vases, that work with your decorating style and the color scheme in the room. Use a single vase or a group of three vases in different sizes or shapes that share a common element, such as the color or a hand-painted design. Intricate hand-painted floral designs will work for traditional or formal rooms, while sleek black or white vases will work with contemporary decor.

    • 2

Place the vases where they will make the largest impact. This can be next to a sweeping staircase, in the front foyer of your home, in architectural cutouts above the staircase or on large sofa tables in a hallway.

    • 3

Fill the vase with decorative items if you want to add more to them. Curly willow or large dried flowers are common fillers. Spray-paint branches and add faux gems, rhinestones, silk flowers, feathers or anything you desire for a different approach.

    • 4

Frame the vases by placing them in front of a mirror, window or hanging fabric, such as draperies.
