How to Bleach Print Clothes

Add something extra to a plain T-shirt by bleach printing it. Bleach is inexpensive and simple to use, and can completely change the look of your garment. Anyone can do this craft, and you may find yourself getting creative with items to use as stencils, stampers or designs on the bleached garments. Use dark-colored clothing for best results and do this project in a well-ventilated area.

Instructions

    • 1

Put gloves on before beginning the project to protect your skin from bleach. Bleach is very caustic and can burn your skin so be careful when working with it.

    • 2

Prepare the buckets with the supplies you'll need. Fix a bleach solution with a ratio of 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water in one bucket, fill two buckets with plain water and fill one bucket with vinegar.

    • 3

Fill a plastic spray bottle with a ratio of one part bleach to the rest water. Shake it to combine the mixture. This can be used to spray bleach on to garments if you want to vary the process a bit.

    • 4

Print the items using stamps, lace, leaves or just about anything that has a pattern or texture. Dip the item in the bleach bucket and press it on to the shirts any way you desire. Alternately, spray garments with the plastic bottle for a different look. For a tie-dyed look, wrap the garment in rubber bands placed wherever you want the effect to occur and soak it in the bleach for 10 minutes.

    • 5

Rinse the printed item immediately in the first water bucket, then place it in the vinegar bucket to soak. Leave it to soak for 10 minutes. The vinegar will cause the design to set, and the water will help stop the bleaching effect.

Rinse it again by dipping it into the second water bucket, then launder the bleach printed garment as you normally would.
