Cute Ways to Do a Teen's Bathroom

In a busy house, having a bathroom just for your teenager can help save time and avoid arguments in the morning. While your teen may not be as particular about the bathroom decor as she is about her bedroom's look, it usually helps to design the space with the teen in mind. You can choose from several looks that may appeal to your teen.
  1. Tropical

    • A tropical-inspired bathroom is usually an ideal fit for teens because it utilizes bold, bright colors. White, aqua, yellow or coral all work with the theme. Choose one color for the walls and use the other shades as accent colors for towels, window treatments and the shower curtain. If you plan to redo the shower surround, a mosaic design that incorporates several of these shades can add dimension to the bathroom. Hang a mirror with a wicker or bamboo frame above the sink. Add a throw rug in a natural fiber such as jute or sisal. You can stencil palm trees on your walls but choose designs that are naturalistic in style to keep the space from seeming too juvenile.

    Hollywood Glamor

    • For a teenage girl, incorporating some Hollywood glamor into her bathroom may make her day. Start with a black-and-white tile design for the walls and floor; incorporate red, pink or aqua accents, depending on your daughter’s preferences. Choose a faux-satin material for the window treatments to provide a luxurious look and place a large, fluffy throw rug in the center of the floor to soften the bathroom’s look. To recreate the feel of a Hollywood dressing room, opt for an oversize unframed mirror above the vanity and line the top and sides of the mirror with exposed bulbs for a fun touch.

    French

    • For a teen who enjoys world travel, a French theme can be fun for her bathroom. Blue-and-white tile is the ideal background for this style. Consider adding toile print wallpaper to the walls or use the print in a shower curtain or window treatment. Use a soft French-country blue on the walls. A center chandelier with satin-like shades is an attractive focal point for the room, particularly if it features crystal embellishments. You can hang framed black-and-white photos of French scenery, such as the Eiffel Tower.

    Rustic

    • For a male teenager who would not appreciate a glamorous or French-themed bathroom, a rustic look may have more appeal. You can use wood paneling in your bathroom to give the walls natural texture. Decorative ceiling beams can also give the space an authentic feel. Choose a shower curtain and window treatments that feature a rustic pattern, such as a plaid or checkered design. For the countertops and tile shower surround, opt for stone to maintain the natural feel.
