How to Decorate Around a Red Chair

Look at the shade of red of your chair, as there are many shades of red. Select curtains and other fabrics that are in the same color family. Don't combine a burgundy chair with orange-red fabrics because the colors clash and won't appear visually pleasing.

Pick decor and furniture in the same style as the red chair. For instance, you may have an elegant red leather chair with ornate carvings in the wood. This works well with traditional-style decor. If the chair is candy apple red and in a retro style, incorporating fun and eclectic knickknacks and fabric selections helps to accentuate the look. Darker woods, such as mahogany and cherry, work well with this color.

Draw attention to the red chair by selecting throw pillows for the couch or other chairs in the room that have the same shade red in the pattern. If the red chair simply provides additional seating and you do not want to draw attention to it, place a large pillow on it that covers much of the bold red. Choose one in a charcoal gray, black, navy or off-white if it is a burgundy color or a pinkish red. If it has orange tones, choose a taupe, cream or brown pillow.

Drape a solid-color afghan or throw blanket over the back of the chair to help hide the bold red or choose one that has a red print to accentuate the color.

Place an area rug that has a touch of the same red color in front of the chair. Position a small end table with a lamp on it next to the chair. Pick a lamp with hints of red in the lampshade. This accentuates the red color and creates an intimate seating area.

Hang a picture on the wall behind the chair. Choose one that matches the style and works well with the colors in the room.
