Hunter Fan Instructions

Ceiling fans dress up a room while providing air movement. Installing them is relatively easy, as long as you have an existing fixture, such as a ceiling light, already wired to the house circuit and solidly attached to a joist. Hunter fans feature ease of installation. An installation hook holds the fan near the ceiling for you while you connect the wiring, so you don't have to try to balance the fan on top of the ladder.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut power to the room at the circuit box. Climb your ladder to the existing ceiling fixture. Remove the fixture by taking out the screws, using your screwdriver. Disconnect the wires, leaving the bare wires from the ceiling electrical box hanging down. Discard the old fixture.

    • 2

Bring the mounting bracket from the fan kit up the ladder. Hold it to the existing electrical box and mount it there with the provided screws. Thread the wires down through the bracket, so they're still hanging free below the ceiling.

    • 3

Assemble the fan motor unit and canopy on the floor according to the instructions. Assemble all but the blades.

    • 4

Bring the assembled fan up the ladder. Hang the fan on the installation hook at the edge of the mounting bracket--there will be on a hole in the canopy of the fan unit to allow you to hang it. This will hold the fan up dangling slightly to one side so you can access the wiring and connect it with both hands free.

    • 5

Twist together the wire ends from the ceiling to the wire ends from the fan with plastic wire nuts. Connect black to black and white to white, and wrap the connections in electrical tape. Twist the bare copper grounding wire from the ceiling around the green grounding screw on the fan unit.

    • 6

Tuck the wires into the box. Press the fan canopy in place against the mounting bracket and secure it with the provided screws.

    • 7

Attach the blades to the fan with the provided screws and rubber washers.

    • 8

Restore power to the room and test the fan.
