Operating Instructions for Stihl String Trimmers

Stihl ia a German company that manufactures power tools and equipment used for yard work, including chain saws, blowers and string trimmers. Stihl string trimmers are used to cut grass in places where the blades of your lawn mower are unable to reach, such as along a fence; to cut through areas of high weeds that would make your lawn mower stall; and to edge along lawns, walkways and flower beds.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the stop switch on the handle into position at the mark that resembles a capital "I."

    • 2

Press the throttle interlock on the handle and hold it.

    • 3

Squeeze the throttle trigger until it engages, then release the trigger and the throttle interlock. The throttle trigger is located on the opposite side of the handle from the interlock.

    • 4

Turn the filter cover to the "Choke" position, and squeeze the fuel pump bulb at least five times.

    • 5

Don your safety goggles. Lay the trimmer on the ground, keeping the cutting edge away from any objects. Hold the trimmer firmly against the ground with one hand, and slowly pull the cord with the other.

    • 6

Press the throttle interlock in and let the engine run at full throttle for a few minutes to warm up.

    • 7

Release the throttle interlock and switch the filter cover to the "Run" position.

    • 8

Hold the trimmer head an inch or two off the ground and squeeze the trigger. Slowly move the trimmer back and forth over the area you want to cut. To use the trimmer for edging, hold it upside down and position the trimmer head so that it's perpendicular to the ground. Squeeze the trigger and glide the trimmer over the edge, keeping it in line with the edge.
