How to Calibrate a Hanna PH Digital Meter

Testing the pH level of water is important if you are using hydroponics to grow things. This helps ensure that the nutrient levels of the water are high and viable for growing. There are basic pH test strips used for this purpose but there are also more advanced digital pH testing meters, such as a Hanna digital meter. These meters come in handy if you are a long-term grower, as it will save you money on test strips. These digital meters do need to be calibrated frequently, but that can be done quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill three plastic containers, one with clean water to rinse the probe, one with pH 7 (neutral) solution and one with pH 4 (acidic) solution. Containers should be deep enough to immerse the meter probe.

    • 2

Turn on the meter and rinse the probe at the end of the unit in the clean water. Allow it to dry.

    • 3

Place the tip of the probe in the pH7 solution. Allow a moment for the solution to set.

    • 4

Locate the screw at the top of the unit labeled "pH7" and turn it until it reads "7."

    • 5

Rinse the probe once more in clean water and allow it to dry.

    • 6

Place the probe in the pH4 solution and allow it to set.

    • 7

Locate the screw at the top of the unit labeled "4/10" and turn it to "4."

    • 8

Rinse the probe again. The meter will now be calibrated.
