To perform most cleaning, maintenance and service on the John Deere, you will need to remove and reinstall the deck. However, you won't need any tools, only the proper safety equipment. Instructions

    • 1

Park the John Deere Garden Tractor on a safe, flat surface. Press the foot brake in and switch on the parking brake lever. Move the transmission lever down into the "Disengaged" position. If applicable, disengage the power take off, or PTO, lever on your John Deere.

    • 2

Turn the engine off and take the key out of the ignition. Unhook any wires connected to the spark plugs. Set the wires in a place where they won't contact the plugs during servicing.

    • 3

Pull up on the lift lever to set the mower deck arms into the transport position. Move the mower deck under the mower, so the grass chute faces right. Place one wood block under each side of the mower deck. Put the lift lever back down to lower the lift arms.

Install the spring locking pins and washer onto the rear draft arms, near the seat, connecting the draft arms to the mower deck. There are two draft arms on each side of mower. Insert the spring locking pin and washer into the front draft rod, connecting the rod to the mower deck bracket.

Hook the mower drive belt on to the engine drive pulley. Route the drive belt through the pulley guides. Pull the blocks out from under the deck. If applicable, attach the PTO drive cable using the spring locking pin. Raise the attachment lift lever to the desired cutting height.
