How to Install a Deck Belt for a John Deere LT133 Lawn Tractor

When you get your John Deere LT133 out of the garage and prepare it for its first grass cutting session of the season, take the time to inspect the mower deck belt. If you see cracking on the V-groove side of the belt, replace it with a new one. The best time to replace the belt is when you plan to replace or sharpen the mower blades since you must remove the mower deck to complete both tasks.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the mower deck to its highest position via the lift lever, which protrudes from the rear fender. Place wooden blocks under the right and left side of the mower deck, then lower the mower deck onto the blocks to take tension off the lift rods.

    • 2

Remove the cotter pins that secure the lift rod pins to the lift rod and mounting brackets, then pull the lift rod pins off. Lower the lift rods and slide the mower forward slightly.

    • 3

Remove the bolts that hold the guard around the PTO pulley under the John Deere engine with a wrench and then pull the mower deck belt off the pulley.

    • 4

Slide the mower deck out from under the John Deere.

    • 5

Remove the pulley covers from the mower deck with a wrench.

    • 6

Pull the old belt off the pulleys on the mower deck and then route the new belt onto the pulleys.

    • 7

Reinstall the pulley covers and then slide the mower deck back under the John Deere.

    • 8

Place the mower deck belt around the PTO pulley and reinstall the guard.

    • 9

Raise the lift rods in place and secure them with the rod pins and the cotter pins.
