How to Replace Lawn Chair Mesh

Lawn chairs are indispensable items during the summer months. People use them for cookouts, ball games, picnics and many other social events. After years of use the mesh strips of the lawn chair wear out, leaving you a still-good metal frame. Repair these chairs yourself and save some money. Replacing the mesh strips on a lawn chair is very simple. All you need to know how to do is cut and weave. There are also no special tools needed to complete this project so do not let the idea of it scare you.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all the old mesh. Use a screwdriver to take out all the screws. Put them in a plastic zipper bag to keep them from getting lost.

    • 2

Count out the number of mesh strips on the chair for the width and the depth. Do this for the seat and the back if you are replacing the mesh there as well.

    • 3

Start with the width of the chair and measure all the way across. Add 4 inches to your measurement to allow for folding the ends of the strip.

    • 4

Cut the proper number of strips to the necessary measurement for the width of the chair.

    • 5

Take one strip and fold one end of it into a neat triangle. Keep the screws handy that you pulled out earlier. Take one screw and fasten the triangle end of the strip in one of the holes on one side of the chair. Make sure you attach the strip so it can come up and around the metal frame smoothly.

    • 6

Pull the mesh strip tightly to the opposite side of the chair. Fold the other end of the mesh strip into a triangle. Use another screw to fasten this end in place on the underside of the chair.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the rest of the width strips.

    • 8

Cut the necessary number of strips for the depth of the chair seat. Follow Step 5 to attach the strip to the front part of the frame of the chair.

    • 9

Weave the strip under and over the width strips all the way to the back of the chair. Follow Steps 5 and 8 to complete replacing the mesh strips on the seat of your lawn chair.

    • 10

Repeat all of the above Steps if the mesh strips on the back of your seat need replacing as well.
