How to PVC a Lounge Chair

Store-bought lounge chairs aren't expensive, but they are usually made from cheap materials and tend to fall apart with use and rust in the elements. Instead of buying the inexpensive chairs you will just have to replace, construct your own. PVC gives you the ability to create sturdy furniture that resists rust and will last for years.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut three pieces of woven mesh fabric into 32-by-32-inch squares using fabric scissors. Use the scissors to remove a 3-by-3-inch rectangle out of all four corners of the mesh. Cut one piece of woven mesh fabric into a 32-by-2-inch rectangle.

    • 2

Place the mesh squares on your work surface. Wrap all four edges of all three squares around a 2-inch-diameter PVC pipe. Where the wrapped edge meets the rest of the mesh, pin it in place using straight pins. Leave a 1/4-inch gap in between the mesh and the pipe. Remove the pipes.

    • 3

Secure the pinned edges using a sewing machine with a straight stitch. Remove the straight pins, leaving behind four pockets on each piece of mesh.

    • 4

Place a 26-inch PVC pipe into each of the four pockets on two of the mesh squares. On the third square, insert PVC pipe into three of the four pockets. Insert a 4-inch PVC pipe into the pockets of rectangular piece of mesh.

    • 5

Apply PVC glue, using a paintbrush, to the ends of all four pipes in one of the mesh squares. With the mesh square lying on your work surface, place a 90-degree PVC corner joint onto the two corners furthest from you. On the two remaining corners, place a 45-degree angle PVC corner joint.

    • 6

Apply PVC glue to the ends of two 4-inch PVC pipes. Insert one end of the pipes into the open joints on the 45-degree corner joints. Attach a 3-way T-joint onto each 4-inch pipe with the third piece pointing the opposite direction of the first piece of mesh you attached.

    • 7

Apply PVC glue to the ends of the PVC pipes in the next mesh square. Insert the pipes into the end of the 3-way T-joint. Choose the joint orientated the same way as the 4-inch PVC pipe. Place a 3-way corner joint on the end, orienting the third piece the same way you did the prior 3-way joint.

    • 8

Apply PVC glue to the ends of the pipes in the mesh square with an empty pocket. Align the empty pocket towards the last mesh square you just placed. Insert the PVC pipes into the 3-way joint. Place a 3-way PVC corner joint with a 90-degree angle on the end of the PVC pipes. Orient the open end of the corner joint down.

Apply PVC glue to one of the ends on six 8-inch PVC pipes. Insert the glued end of the pipes into the open holes of the 3-way joints.
