How to Install No Adhesive 2X2 Carpet Tiles

Carpet tiles are sections of carpet that are made in small sections, such as 2-by-2 feet, and are laid like tile. Carpet tiles have the advantage of providing access to plumbing or wiring underneath the floor without tearing up the carpet. And you can remove a small, damaged section and replace it, rather than having to replace the entire carpet. You can lay carpet tile without adhesive and finish a floor in just a few hours.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the carpet tiles from the packaging and place them in the room to become acclimated 24 hours before installation.

    • 2

Vacuum the floor and mop it with a cleanser. The carpet tile can be laid on hardwood flooring and tile, in addition to a subfloor or concrete floor.

    • 3

Measure the midpoint of each wall along the base and snap a chalk line between the opposite walls. This divides the room into four equal quadrants, with the spot where the lines intersect marking the center of the room.

    • 4

Place a strip of double-sided tape along the edges of the bottom of the first carpet tile.

    • 5

Place the carpet tile in the corner of one of the quadrants in the center of the room. Use the arrows on the back of the tiles so it's facing the direction you want.

    • 6

Install carpet tiles in the three other quadrants in the center of the room using the same method.

    • 7

Finish laying the tiles on the floor until you either reach the walls or need to cut the tiles to fit. Use double-sided tape on only every other tile, as they will lock the loose tiles into place once the floor is complete.

    • 8

Measure the space around the perimeter of the floor for the tiles that need to be cut.

    • 9

Turn the tiles upside down and mark the cut line. Place a straightedge along the cut line and cut the tiles with a utility knife.

    • 10

Install the cut tiles on the floor.
