* Drinking straws
* Scissors
* Tape
* Hot glue gun (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Assemble the straws into bundles
Cut the drinking straws into equal lengths, making sure that they're all the same size. Then, organize them into bundles of about 10 straws each using a rubber band or twist tie.
Step 2: Build the base
* Form a square or rectangular shape with the bundles of straws. You can make the base as large or small as you want, depending on the size of your structure. Then use hot glue to hold it in place, or tape it together.
* Cut a couple of extra straws in half to create beams for the base. Position them inside the structure, connecting opposite ends of the straw bundles. Secure the beams in place with glue or tape.
* To make the base sturdier, you can also add diagonal braces to the corners.
Step 3: Build the walls
* Continue stacking bundles of straws on top of the base, gluing or taping them in place as you go.
* Add beams horizontally to connect the bundles and add stability to the walls.
* You can also add windows and doors by cutting out sections of straws and replacing them with clear plastic wrap.
Step 4: Add a roof
* Form a triangular shape with the bundles of straws, and glue or tape them in place.
* Add beams to connect the roof to the walls.
* You can also add decorative elements to your structure, such as flags, balconies, or furniture.
* To make your structure more durable, you can coat it with a sealant, such as polyurethane or spray paint. This will help to protect it from moisture and damage.
Step 5: Enjoy your straw structure!
Once your structure is complete, you can use it to hold trinkets and toys or as a decoration. You can also use it as a learning tool to teach kids about engineering and architecture.
