Dill Varieties

A member of the carrot family, dill is a herb most often used for pickle seasoning, cooking and preserving, as well as an outdoor garden specimen. Common dill is a larger than the dwarf version of the plant, which is commonly grown by indoor and outdoor gardeners alike. When using dill as an herb, the leaves, flowers and seeds may be utilized.

    • Delikat is a stocky, dwarf variety of dill herb that grows best in gardens that receive less than six hours of direct sunlight a day, according to the National Gardening Association website.

    Fernleaf

    • Another stocky type of dill, Fernleaf is a common variety that does well as an indoor plant. Like the Delikat variety, fernleaf does not need more than six hours of direct sunlight per day to thrive, making it a favorite for gardeners with low-light yards. Growing only 18 inches tall, Fernleaf belongs to the dwarf family of dill.

    Dukat

    • Dukat dill, a type of common dill, is considered one of the darker green-colored common varieties. If you are growing dill for its appearance as an outdoor plant, Dukat is favorable for its bold color and slow-growing nature.

    Bouquet

    • Bouquet is another dwarf variety of dill.The bouquet variety grows far fewer blossoms and seeds than the common variety, making it suitable as an indoor or outdoor home specimen. One of the easier varieties to grow, Bouquet is tolerant of most soils and will reappear on its own each year. When using Bouquet dill as an herb, the flowers, seeds and leaves may be used for flavoring.

    Vierling

    • One of the most showy varieties of dill herb is Vierling, which grows clusters of blooming flowers, which are perfect for bouquets, according to the online edition of Mother Earth News.
