Instructions

    • 1

Purchase raw peanuts (unroasted and unsalted) from a health food or specialty store. Peanut seeds can also be found in many nurseries; however, raw peanuts can also be planted.

    • 2

Choose an area to plant the peanuts. The area should have loose, well drained soil and receive direct, full sunlight. Add compost or sand to the soil if needed.

    • 3

Plant the peanuts in the ground after all danger of frost has passed. The peanuts should be planted about 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart.

    • 4

Water the plants, but do not over water. They should be watered when sown and again when they sprout--about 10 to 15 days later. The plants will grow to be about 18 inches tall.

    • 5

Harvest peanuts in the fall after the first frost has occurred. To harvest, pull the entire plant out of the ground and place the plants in a cool, dry place to dry.

    • 6

Roast the peanuts after they have dried. To roast, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread shelled nuts in a single layer on a cookie sheet and roast for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Allow to cool, then remove the peanuts from shells and salt to taste.
