How to Freeze Mushrooms

How To Freeze Fresh Mushrooms

1. Sort and clean the mushrooms: Discard any spoiled or damaged mushrooms. Gently brush off any dirt or debris with a soft brush.

2. Trim the mushrooms: Remove the stems and any blemishes.

3. Blanch the mushrooms (optional): Blanching helps to preserve the color, texture, and flavor of the mushrooms. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the mushrooms and blanch them for 2-3 minutes, or until they are just tender. Drain the mushrooms immediately and cool them in an ice water bath to stop the cooking process. Drain the mushrooms again and pat them dry with paper towels.

4. Freeze the mushrooms: Spread the mushrooms out on a baking sheet and place them in the freezer. Freeze for at least 24 hours, or until they are solid.

5. Transfer the mushrooms to a freezer bag: Once the mushrooms are frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag. Press out any excess air and seal the bag. Label the bag with the date and contents.

6. Store the mushrooms in the freezer: Frozen mushrooms can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 year.
