How to Remove Stains From Pavers Caused by Oak Trees

Pavers are used in landscaping. They can make up a driveway, walkway, and even surround a pool. Often, trees in the landscape have branches that overhang the pavers. The leaves that drop on the pavers can cause stains, and oak trees cause especially dark stains. This is because oak tree leaves contain tannin, which is the same ingredient found in may teas. If your pavers have been stained by oak leaves, don't fear; you can get the stains up and have your pavers looking like new in no time.

Broom
Commercial paver cleaning solution
2 tbsp. salt
1 cup vinegar
Scrub brush
Baking soda

Instructions

  Water down the stained pavers. Brush away any dirt or debris with a broom while the pavers are still wet.

  Test a cleaning solution made for your type of pavers in an inconspicuous area to ensure it does not alter the color of your pavers.

  Apply the cleaning solution while the pavers are still wet and work it in with the broom. Rinse the area clean.

  Mix 2 tbsp. of salt with 1 cup of vinegar. The vinegar is acidic and can break up stains without damaging your pavers. The salt works as a mild abrasive. Pour this mixture over the stained area of your pavers and scrub it in.

  Sprinkle baking soda over your vinegar and salt mixture. It may bubble a little, but you can easily form a paste with it.

  Let the baking soda paste remain on the stain for two to three minutes. Scrub the baking soda into the stain.

  Rinse the pavers down one final time, and then allow them to dry naturally.
