How to Remove Oil From Pavers

The use of pavers to create pathways dates back thousands of years. Over the years, the manufacture of pavers has evolved to the point where homeowners can choose from a variety of colors and shapes when planning their landscaping projects. If your driveway pavers have become soiled by oil stains, you may be able to remove the eyesore and preserve the aesthetic appeal of the cobblestones.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot fresh oil stains with a cloth or paper towels. Sprinkle clay-based cat litter over the stained area and allow it to sit for awhile to soak up oil. Sweep the cat litter up with a broom and dustpan and dispose of it.

    • 2

Pour a layer of powdered laundry detergent over the stain. Add enough water to create a peanut butter consistency, then scrub it into the stain. Let it sit at least 12 hours. Re-wet the detergent and scrub it thoroughly before rinsing it away.

    • 3

Don gloves to protect your hands if the stain persists. Spray oven cleaner over the stained surface, then scrub with a wire brush. Rinse away the oven cleaner, then clean the area completely with soapy water before rinsing it again with clean water.
