How to Get Burned Pan Marks Off of a Cooktop

Glass cook tops have a smooth surface that is not protected by metal grates or electric coils like a gas or traditional electric stove top. When using a glass cooktop you place the pot directly on the surface and slide it around. This can create burn or scorch marks on the cooktop. Remove these as soon as the stove cools enough for you to clean it without burning yourself. The longer you wait, the harder the stains will be to remove.

Instructions

    • 1

      Let the stove cool.

    • 2

Wipe up all of the food residue from the cooktop with a damp sponge.

    • 3

Flip the sponge over to use the abrasive side to work off any burnt residue. Press hard and scrub the burnt residue off. You may not be able to remove all of the stain this way.

    • 4

Hold a razor at a 45-degree angle with the stove top and slide it across the burn residue to remove the rest of it. Make sure the stove top is wet the entire time, as the water will lubricate the surface to avoid scratches.

    • 5

Add just enough water to 1 cup baking soda to make a thick paste.

    • 6

Spread the paste over the burn pan marks and let it sit for 10 minutes.

    • 7

Pour 1 tablespoon white vinegar over the baking soda paste and watch the two fizz for several minutes. This will help loosen the stains.

    • 8

Scrub the baking soda into the stove top until all of the stains are gone.

    • 9

Rinse the area with clear water and dry it completely.
