How to Get Burned on Plastic off a Stove Top

If you've ever accidentally placed a plastic item like a bag or a lid on your hot stove top, you may have been horrified to find melted plastic seemingly "glued" to your stove. Burned plastic will create an ugly, smelly stain on your range. Luckily you can get rid of most burnt plastic residue if you use the right cleaning products and techniques.

  • Oven cleaner spray
  • Plastic scraper
  • Razor blade
  • Cup
  • Vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Lint-free cloths
  • Stove top polish
  • Paper towels

Instructions

      Wait for the stove top to completely cool.

      Spray oven cleaning spray onto the burnt plastic and wait 10 minutes.

      Scrape the plastic away gently using a plastic window scraper. If this won't scrape away the residue, use a razor blade. Do so gently and with great caution so as not to scratch the surface. Wipe away the excess cleanser and residue with a damp sponge.

      Mix 1 tablespoon each of white vinegar and liquid dish soap into a cup of warm water. Dip a cloth into this solution wipe the stove top with the cloth. Rinse with clear water and dry the area with a lint-free cloth.

      Squirt a few drops of stove top cleaner onto a paper towel. Rub the cleaner onto the stove top using circular strokes. Wait five minutes and wipe off the dried cleaner using a clean paper towel.
