Repairing a Scuff Mark on a Window

Scuff marks, unlike deep scratches, sit on the surface of window glass, rather than cut into it. Although it's easier to restore a window that's been scuffed than one that's been scratched, general glass cleaners often won't do the job. Run your fingernail over the scuff mark to confirm that the mark is, in fact, a surface mark; if your nail catches on the glass, it's a deeper scratch that may not be removable.

Instructions

    • 1

Rub the scuff with a moist melanime dirt eraser sponge. If the scuff is minor, this may be all you need to do.

    • 2

Dip a small area of a polishing cloth into glass buffing compound. Rub the area with the compound in a counterclockwise motion until the scuff disappears. Turn the polishing cloth over to a dry area and rub the excess compound away.

    • 3

Polish the area using a rotary tool or drill with a polishing pad attachment. Turn the tool on to a low speed and touch a corner of the pad to the buffing compound. Touch the pad to the scuff and move the tool in a counterclockwise motion to remove the scuff.
