How to Get Ink From Newspapers Off a Teak Table

Teak wood is a popular choice for outdoor and patio furniture as well as boat decks and cutting boards. The oils naturally found in teak wood make it more weather-resistant than other wood types. However, teak is not immune to stains. Heat, water, marker and even ink can cause unsightly stains on your teak wood. Leaving a wet newspaper on your teak wood table can cause the ink to transfer from the paper to your table. Fortunately, there are a few methods that can remove the ink and restore your teak table.

    • 1

Saturate the newspaper ink stain with hairspray.

    • 2

Wipe the hairspray away with paper towels.

    • 3

Continue applying the hairspray and wiping with paper towels until the stain is gone.

    Water-Displacing Spray

    • 4

Apply water-displacing spray directly to the ink stain.

    • 5

Cover the spray and newspaper ink stain completely with plastic wrap. Allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes.

    • 6

Fill a small container with warm water. Add a few drops of a mild dish-washing liquid to the water.

    • 7

Saturate a sponge or cloth in the mixture and wring out the excess liquid.

    • 8

Remove the plastic wrap. Rub the area with the saturated sponge until the stain is no longer visible.

    Oxalic Acid Method

    • 9

Equip yourself with a pair of rubber gloves.

    • 10

Combine equal parts warm water and oxalic acid in a small bowl.

    • 11

Fill an eye dropper with the mixture.

    • 12
