How to Get Milk Off a Sofa

Milk contains proteins that can cause unsightly stains on a sofa. In addition to fabric discoloration, milk can quickly cause the upholstery to develop an unpleasant sour smell. If possible, deal with the spilled milk as soon as it happens. The longer milk sits on the sofa, the deeper it will sink into the sofa’s padding. This will also increase the likelihood of a smelly stain.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot freshly spilled milk with several paper towels until they no longer absorb the liquid.

    • 2

Dampen a white cloth with dry-cleaning solvent. Dab the milk stain with the cloth until the stain is no longer visible.

    • 3

Pour 2 cups of cool water into a plastic container, if any stain remains. Add 1 tbsp. of clear dish-washing liquid, and mix.

    • 4

Dampen a sponge in the mixture. Pat the lingering stain with the sponge. Continue until the stain is no longer visible.

    • 5

Remove the soapy mixture from the sofa with a clean, damp cloth. Pat the sofa dry with a towel.
