How to Get Ink Out of Microplush

Microplush has a thick pile and soft texture, making it a common material for blankets and throws. Microplush is made from a durable synthetic fiber, typically polyester. You can remove most ink stains from the fabric, unless they are caused by permanent or indelible ink. Standard ballpoint ink usually washes out of the plush with just minimal pretreatment, while marker and permanent inks require further treatment and may only become lighter while still remaining visible.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray a dry cleaning solvent on ballpoint ink stains. Saturate the stain with the solvent and let it soak for three minutes.

    • 2

Dissolve 1 teaspoon of heavy-duty laundry detergent in 2 cups of water. Soak a rough cloth in the solution and scrub the stain with the rag. Use the detergent on both ballpoint and marker ink stains. Most of the ballpoint ink should be removed after this process.

    • 3

Dilute one part laundry bleach with five parts cool water. Soak the marker ink stain in the bleach solution for no more than 15 minutes. Soak the entire microplush item, so any lightening of the dyes in the fabric occurs evenly over the entire item.

    • 4

Launder the item immediately after stain or bleach treatment, so the bleach doesn't weaken the fabric. Wash the item in warm water with a heavy-duty laundry detergent.

    • 5

Inspect the microplush item for remaining stains before machine drying. Treat the ink stain a second time if it still remains. Machine dry as usual if the stain is no longer visible.
