How to Clean Hob Rings

A hob ring is the removable heating element on a stove. Hob rings can be aluminum or ceramic, and the material will determine the cleaning method. Cleaning hob rings involves removing spills before the food burns onto the hob surface. Regular cleaning of the hob rings after each use will result in longer lasting hobs and less unpleasant odors in the kitchen. Clean the hobs after a pot or pan boils over, or after spilling food.

Instructions

  1. Aluminum Hob Rings

    • 1

Let the hob rings cool after use. Wipe them down with a damp cloth. If there still are stains or stuck-on food, fill the sink with hot soapy water and move the rings into the sink.

    • 2

Let the rings soak overnight. Rinse them in clear water.

    • 3

Put a dime-sized amount of cream metal cleaner on a scouring pad and gently scrub off any remaining stains or stuck on food. Rinse the hob and let it air dry before returning it to the stove.

    Ceramic Hob Rings

    • 4

Scrape off any burnt on food with a glass scraper while the hob still is warm. Wipe it down with a damp cloth.

    • 5

Put a dime-sized amount of a ceramic hob cleaner on the cloth and wipe down the hob gently. The cleaner will leave a protective film that will prevent damage from food burning over in the future.

    • 6

Let the hob dry completely before using it again.
