How to Use a Kitchen Cabinet Outlet

Using electrical outlets in the kitchen for your small kitchen appliances and other electrical items is safe, provided you adhere to some simple guidelines and the outlet is up to code. If you have an electric outlet inside a cabinet, this is most likely because the kitchen was renovated at some point. You can use that outlet as well, but do keep some things in mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Dry your hands before plugging and unplugging an appliance. Also, do not use the appliance while your hands are wet.

    • 2

Open the cabinet when you want to use the outlet and plug in your appliance. The cord should not cross over the sink area, though. Also, do not pinch the cord if you close the cabinet during use. Over time, the cord may fray.

    • 3

Use the appliance away from the sink area where it will not get wet or fall in.

    • 4

Unplug the appliance when finished, rather than leaving it plugged in during storage. Hold the thick plastic area near the metal prongs and pull firmly to unplug the appliance. Do not pull on the cord.
