Unique Floral Container Ideas

Flower arrangements are one of the best ways to freshen up your home with a splash of color. However, many people don't put much thought into the vase that holds the flowers, and will just use any old container. Don't do your flowers the injustice of placing them in a lackluster vase. These unique floral container ideas will really draw attention to your blooms.
  1. Size

    • The first and most obvious aspect you should consider is size. A container that is too large will leave the bouquet looking sparse and spread out. If you choose one that is too small, the flowers could topple the vase or not get sufficient water. Also consider height. If your bouquet is full of tall blooms like tulips and sunflowers, you won't want to try to fit them into a shallow container.

    Style

    • An effectively arranged bouquet will reflect a certain style. A few elegant calla lilies would look silly in a funky colored ceramic teapot. However, something like a bunch of fun and bright colored gerbera daisies would be more fitting. Make sure you match your container to the style of bouquet. Also take into consideration the style and formality of your décor.

    Function

    • When selecting a container to use to hold flowers, get creative and think beyond its intended function. Almost any watertight container can be used as a vase. An antique milk pitcher housing a bunch of wildflowers would look perfectly fitting in a room with a cottage décor theme. A galvanized metal bucket with some holes drilled in the bottom will make a great rustic-looking planter.

    Space

    • Apartment dwellers don't have the luxury of a plot of land for a garden. If you want to plant your own flowers but are lacking the space, there are some creative solutions that will allow you to satisfy your green thumb without sacrificing your entire deck to potted plants. Buy a hanging pocket shoe organizer. Plant a few seeds in each pocket and watch your blooms fill the vertical planter.

    Go Green

    • Check the trash for objects that you can recycle into flower containers. Try an eco-friendly approach by using empty glass bottles arranged on a window sill with a single bloom in each bottle. Save those tin cans from vegetables and use them to make a fun science project for kids. Drill holes in the bottom of each can for drainage and plant different flowers in each one. You can even make it look good by wrapping the can with decorative paper.
