Instructions on Choosing & Preparing a Container for Floral Arrangement

Floral containers help define the look of a flower arrangement. Simple containers can fade into the background and show off stunning blossoms, while detailed containers can become an integral part of the arrangement. Virtually anything can become a container for silk, dried or fresh flowers, from traditional glass containers and bowls to teacups and bread pans. Before you buy a new container, search your home for something unusual that enhances your decor and flowers.

Instructions

Examine your flowers and determine the height of the container you will need for your arrangement. Generally, the flower height should extend two times taller than the container height. For example, if your container is 6 inches tall, your total flower height should be approximately 18 inches from the bottom of the stem to the tip of the flowers.

Choose the container based on your decor and the type of flowers you plan to use. For fresh flowers, you will need a watertight container. Dried or silk flowers can use any type of container because they do not need water.

Wash your container with mild dish soap and rinse it clean. Dry the container completely with a soft cloth.

Place floral foam in the container and secure it to the base with floral putty or by placing floral tape across the top. For fresh flowers, soak the floral foam in water before you place it in the container.
