How to Display Vases in the Home

Vases range from tiny bud-style vases to grand-size vases as tall as a person. Each vase can be arranged within the decor of a house or room to create the effect the homeowner wants. The basic rule for arranging objects suggests that like-sized objects such as two identical large vases, be positioned symmetrically, such as on either side of a doorway to create a visual balance, but rules can be broken to please the eye. Vases that are not the same in size or shape can be grouped in sets of three or five. Vase collections such as wall bud vases can be mounted or grouped in larger numbers. A single vase can be displayed alone if it fits the space properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange small and identical vases in a line or pattern. These single flower vases can be set on a table or hung from wall-mounted holders. The vase and the flower or item inside the vase should be identical or complement each other for this type of collection to look good.

    • 2

Group similarly shaped or colored vases together in sets of three or five. Arrange the vases from high (toward the back) to low (toward the front). These vases can stand alone without flowers.

    • 3

Place large statement vases symmetrically or however they please the eye at entryways, alongside fireplaces or framing a view or vignette. This type of vase should be similar or identical in size, shape, design and motif.

    • 4

Cluster similarly shaped vases in different colors to create a centerpiece for a dining room table. Tie all of the vases together by filling the vases with identical flowers and greenery. Arrange taller vases to the center and shorter vases to the outside.

    • 5

Place single larger vases on tables that are large enough to support a floral display. Fill the vase with a floral arrangement. If the vase is placed to the side of a table, balance the visual weight with another object or group of objects on the other end of the table. Example: Use a large vase with flowers on one end of a sofa table, and a group of candlesticks on the other end for balance.

Center a large vase on round and decorative tables as the featured item for the table. Create a floral arrangement inside the vase that can be seen equally well on all sides.
