Look at your landscape and notice any empty areas that would look better with a hydrangea plant. Look for areas that receive both sun and shade throughout the day. Notice areas that receive lots of water when it rains or are convenient to water with a watering can.
Display your hydrangeas along a garden path or walkway to bring attention to it. Place the hydrangeas on one side of the path and put small perennials on the other side. Display several hydrangeas in various colors to add more color to your landscape.
Display hydrangeas behind shorter perennials. Choose perennials in a variety of different colors that will continue to look beautiful as the hydrangeas' colors deepen throughout the year. Place hydrangeas parallel to a viburnum hedge to create a mirroring effect between the plants.
Display your hydrangea blooms in a vase. Fill the vase with cool water. Cut off a bloom one week after it opens so it will last for several weeks in the vase. Position the scissors diagonally over the green area of the stem and trim off the bloom. Cut off any leaves on the trimmed portion of the stem.
Place the bloom in the vase. Remove the bloom from the water after two hours. Hit the end of the stem with the hammer to make it soak up water in the vase. Put the bloom back in the vase.
Place the hosta leaves in the vase around your hydrangea bloom. Fill the rest of the vase with irises to balance out the rounded shape of the bloom. Add more water to the vase each day. Rinse out the vase and refill it with clean water if the water looks dirty or cloudy.
Display the bloom on a bedside table or desk. Wrap a ribbon around the vase to add extra color to your flower arrangement. Drop a few colored rocks into the vase if you want to create a more colorful display.
Display your hydrangea arrangement on a windowsill that is deep enough to hold the vase. Place the arrangement in a bathroom or other small room to give the room a pleasant scent. Put your hydrangea on a dining room table to create a colorful centerpiece.
