Do it Yourself Window Frosting Stencils

A sheen of frosty spray adds a privacy screen to a glass window that is set into a door or overlooks a neighboring property. Stencils provide patterns or shapes to add artistic interest to the frosted window. Create stencils with see-through sheets of plastic using a pattern that reflects your style and existing home or business decor. Choose from geometric patterns, florals, shapes from nature, scenery and business logos for your hand-made window frosting stencils.

Instructions

    • 1

Search for simple line drawing pattern ideas in coloring books, calendars, craft punch tools and photographs. Trace or draw a preliminary pattern on copy paper until you have the design that will work best for the project. Make a final copy of the stencil pattern on a piece of lightweight card stock.

    • 2

Place the self-healing cutting mat on a flat work surface. Place the paper drawing on the mat and tape the four corners to secure it in place.

    • 3

Tape the four sides of the clear plastic sheet of polyester film or acetate to the mat, sandwiching the paper in between the two.

    • 4

Cut the outline of the stencil with the craft knife, starting at the top corner opposite your dominant hand.

Go slowly. Keep your free hand well away from the sharp blade while cutting the plastic. Make sure to cut completely through the plastic. Work your way from the top to the bottom as you cut the individual pieces from the sheet.

    • 5

Remove the tape from the plastic sheet. Pull off the cut-out pieces. If a cut-out is hanging from the stencil carefully trim it away from the main piece.

    • 6

Tape or secure the stencil to the window with repositional spray adhesive before spraying the window with frosting spray.
