-Rug canvas
-Wool yarn (you will need several skeins depending on the size of your rug)
-Locker hook (pick one with a handle that's comfortable for you to grip and a hook that is the appropriate size for your yarn)
-Scissors
1. Cut a piece of rug canvas that is the size you want your rug to be.
2. Fold one edge of the canvas over about 1 inch and hem it in place.
3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the remaining three sides of the canvas.
4. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, then in half again widthwise to find the center.
1. Cut four or five strands of yarn 24 inches long each.
2. Tie the yarn ends together at one end, fold them in half and place the loop against the center of your canvas, directly behind a warp thread, with cut ends facing upwards.
3. Hook the loop underneath two neighboring warp threads with your locker hook.
4. Pull the loop up through the canvas, forming a knot around both warp threads, and let the extra yarn dangle free.
5. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 on both sides of the center warp thread.
6. Fold a third loop on top of these first three loops, hook under two more warp threads, and pull it up through to form a knot.
1. Continue hooking, alternating between the left and right side, until you reach the edge of the canvas.
2. Tuck any excess yarn under the loops as you go.
3. At the beginning of a new row, leave about a two-inch tail and insert the hook under two warp threads, wrapping it around the tail.
3. Pull this wrap around to the front and form it into a loop. Tie the new yarn onto this loop, leaving only a one-inch tail.
4. Now hook under two warp threads to the right and pass it through the loop you just made for a new loop.
4. When the row ends, wrap and tuck the tail ends around the two warp threads.
5. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until your rug is the desired size and shape.
5.###Finishing the rug
-Use scissors to trim any excess yarn.
-Sew a border around the rug using a whip stitch or blanket stitch.
-Enjoy your new rug!
