How to Shorten the Width of Cellular Shades

## How to Shorten the Width Cellular Shades

---

Cellular shades are a popular choice for window treatments because they offer privacy, insulation, and light control. They are also relatively inexpensive and easy to install. However, if you need to shorten the width of your cellular shades, it is important to do it correctly so that the shades continue to function properly.

---

Follow these steps to shorten the width of your cellular shades:

1. Measure the width of your cellular shade.

- Do this by measuring from the left edge of the headrail to the right edge of the headrail.

2.Subtract 1/2 inch from the measurement you took in Step 1.

- This will allow for a 1/4-inch hem on each side of the shade.

3. Cut the headrail and bottom rail to the desired width.

- Use a hacksaw or utility knife to cut the headrail and bottom rail.

4. Remove the fabric from the headrail and bottom rail.

- To remove the fabric from the headrail, simply pull it out of the channel.

5. Hem the sides of the fabric.

- Fold the edges of the fabric over twice, and then press them flat.

6. Reinsert the fabric into the headrail and bottom rail.

- Tuck the hemmed edges of the fabric into the channel in the headrail and bottom rail.

7. Slide on the cord lock and tassel

8. Remount the cellular shade.

- Now that the width has been shortened, reinstall your shade into your window frame

Tips:

* If you are not comfortable cutting the headrail and bottom rail, you can take your shades to a window treatment store and have them do it for you.

* Cellular shades come in a range of opacities, from sheer to blackout. The fabric’s opacity affects the amount of light that will be filtered into your room. Blackout shades provide the best at total privacy.

* You can also purchase special blackout shades if you want complete darkness in your room.
