How to Make Kitchen Glass Cabinets Look Antiqued

Even the newest of homes can have the look of a charming, aged kitchen by antiquing the cabinets. Glass-front cabinets already have visual appeal, but antiquing them can give your kitchen the cozy feel of a lovingly used country or rustic space. With a few basic materials and a bit of time, you can give your glass-front kitchen cabinets a timeworn look.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cabinet doors from the front of the cabinets. Remove all of the hardware (knobs, hinges, etc) from the cabinets and doors with a screwdriver. Remove the glass from the cabinet doors. Carefully set the glass aside.

    • 2

Apply painter's tape along the walls where they touch the edges of the cabinets.

    • 3

Clean the surface of the cabinet doors and the surface of the cabinets themselves with a clean, damp cloth.

    • 4

Pour one part gray paint and one part glaze into a bowl. Mix the paint and glaze together.

    • 5

Dip a clean cloth into the paint/glaze mixture. Rub the cloth onto the cabinet fronts and the cabinets themselves in small, circular motions. Work on small sections at a time.

    • 6

Wipe down the newly glazed surfaces with a clean cloth while the glaze is still wet. After covering one small section of a cabinet door or a cabinet, wipe the glaze off while it is still wet.

    • 7

Allow the cabinets and cabinet doors to completely dry; a period of 12 to 24 hours should suffice.

    • 8

Replace the glass and the hardware on the cabinet doors. Hang the doors back on the cabinets.
