Open the cabinet doors and remove the drawers. Extract the screws inside the drawers and doors that hold the handles and knobs. Set the drawers on a drop cloth.
Wipe all exposed cabinet surfaces with a damp cloth to remove dust, dirt and any cooking grease.
Open windows and set up a fan to circulate air while you are working with lacquer.
Apply lacquer to the cabinet surfaces and trim in long, even strokes. Work quickly to prevent the lacquer from streaking or drying unevenly. Let the cabinets dry overnight.
Apply a second lacquer coat if desired.
Place the new hardware over the old mounting holes on the cabinet faces and drawer fronts. Attach the hardware with screws mounted through the back side of the cabinet doors and inside the drawer fronts.
