Push the bed away from the headboard. Remove the headboard from its current location on the wall.
Measure from the existing mounting hardware on the wall to the point where you want to elevate your headboard. Place pencil marks at these locations, which in most cases will be where the left and right sides of the headboard hit the wall.
Remove the mounting hardware from the walls. Depending on your headboard, this may be hooks on which to attach “D” rings or mounting brackets on either side.
Patch the holes in the wall by filling them with spackle. Let it dry for 24 hours and sand it down so it’s even with the wall. Cover over the spackle with wall paint.
Reattach the mounting hardware for your headboard at the pencil markings. Drill pilot holes into the studs for the screws if necessary. Slip the headboard back into place and replace the bed to complete the elevation process.
Obtain a set of bed elevators, which are available at many home and bath retailers or from shops online. Bed elevators slip under the four corners of the bed frame and allow a headboard attached to the frame to be elevated as well.
Lift one of the bed’s corners, having an assistant help you if necessary. Slip the first bed elevator into place and lower the frame on top of it.
Repeat the bed elevator installation process on the remaining corners to finish the project.
