Decorating Ideas for Rooms With Blue & Brown Walls

Blue and brown walls can work in any room of your home with a variety of different decorating styles, such as modern, country and traditional. The shades of the brown and blue on the walls, along with the pattern or design, will set the tone for the furnishings in the room.
  1. Living Room

    • Create a welcoming and relaxing living room with light blue and beige striped walls. Paint stripes on one wall, and paint the other three solid beige or blue if stripes are too much for you on all four walls. Solid blue or chocolate brown furniture will complement the walls without blending in. Pile on throw pillows in the opposite color, such as blue pillows on a brown sofa. Glass or wood side tables can hold blue vases with white flowers or blue lamps with brown vases. Hang mirrors and artwork on the walls in beige frames on a blue wall or solid black, white or silver frames for a neutral look. Stick to one neutral color to make the space work, such as white, cream, black or metals.

    Dining Room

    • Your blue and brown walls in the dining room can create a casual or formal atmosphere. For example, chocolate brown under a chair rail and blue on top of the chair rail can create a sophisticated look. Alternatively, create panels in one color while the rest of the walls are the opposite color. Casual dining rooms might include a blue and brown floral print wallpaper. Dress up your dining room table with a blue tablecloth or runner and brown linen napkins and placemats. Plain white dishes would balance the look. Opt for a centerpiece that includes both colors, such as a hand-painted vase or bowl.

    Bedroom

    • Alternate between brown on blue on the bedroom walls or create a pattern on one wall. For example, paint the walls blue and add a pattern, such as damask, over the blue in brown paint on one wall. Chocolate brown furniture will stand out against the blue on the walls. Tie the colors together with a blue comforter or duvet with a brown border, piping or pattern. Use brown and blue pillows and a rug with a brown and blue pattern that complements the bedding and walls. Hang chocolate brown shelves on a blue wall, or use neutral-colored shelves, such as white or black. Add extra lamps if the wall color is dark to avoid making the bedroom feel more like a dark cave than a relaxing retreat.

    Bathroom

    • Brown and blue walls in a bathroom can create a spa-like room or a casual and unexpected space. For example, paint the walls chocolate brown and add an abundance of aqua blue bubbles or geometric shapes. Add a shower curtain, toilet seat, trash bin and counter accessories that appear clear with blue bubbles in them. Include pictures of fish, boats, ducks or anything associated with water. For a spa-like bathroom, roll white towels in a brown basket, and add white candles to a brown candle holder with blue stones or crystals. Fill blue glass vases with single white flowers. Add relaxing images, such as the ocean, beach or flowers, on the walls.
