How to Decorate With Large Glass Containers & Candles

Decorating with large glass containers and candles allows you the flexibility to quickly and cheaply update the look of a room. You can change the container's interior items to match a special celebration or to complement holiday gatherings. The waterproof nature of glass will accommodate a floral or water-based display as well as solid decorative items. By placing a smaller glass container inside a larger one, you can create a three-dimensional display that includes both liquid and solid adornments.

Things You'll Need

  • Candles
  • Large glass containers
  • Hot glue gun
  • Lightweight decorative items
  • Sand
  • Candleholders and smaller glass containers

Instructions

    • 1

Make a centerpiece for a dining table or coffee table with a large glass container, a candle and a smaller diameter glass container. Place a tan or light blue candle inside the smaller glass container and set it inside the larger container. Use sand from your last beach vacation or purchased at a local hobby shop to fill in the space between the two containers. Pour the sand in slowly so very little of the material filters beneath the smaller container. Scatter seashells, ocean glass or shark’s teeth on top of the sand for added visual interest.

Build on the beach theme by adding taper or medium-sized round candles to the table display. Place the candles on simple glass candle stands or inside small glass containers and put them on each side of the larger display. For a display on a fireplace mantel or bookshelf, add beach-themed knickknacks or photos to complete a whimsical seashore display.

Fill a glass container with seasonal items, such as Christmas ornaments, river rocks, short branches or Halloween candy corn. Purchase candles in colors that complement the display and place them on each side of the large glass container. For a less streamlined look, use both votive and taper candles to encircle the large display. Change the items inside the large glass container when your mood or the season changes.

Attach lightweight small items to your candles with a hot glue gun. Affix seashells, small natural stones, fabric, ribbon or even feathers for a creative flourish. Use the season, holiday or a special celebration as inspiration for your display. Place the candles on a rectangular large glass container. Scatter seasonal items such as pine cones, twigs or fresh flowers on the display area next to the candles or in smaller glass containers.
